Book Week is here!

We are enjoying some exciting book week activities.

We have had guest readers in class each morning to read to us. This is exciting!

Here are two of our wonderful parent readers, Dee and Duncan.

A big that you to all our wonderful parent readers!

Geronimo Stilton has visited.

Golden tickets were swapped at our annual NWS book swap.

Mrs Chester is reading books from the stop drop and read bag that librarian Carol has made up for our class.

Books and reading is so much fun.  We can't wait for the book character parade on Thursday.

Air Pollution

In health we are asking questions and exploring environmental and safety issues relating to traffic congestion and air pollution.

We conducted an experiment to explore the pollution emitted by vehicles.

Ollie helped Miss Heer to put a clean white sock over tthe exhaust pipe of a big old four wheeled drive.

The cars engine was then turned on and left to run for some time.  We could smell yucky fumes!

When the sock was removed we compared it to a clean one.

The sock that had been on the exhaust pipe was smelly and filthy.  We could see that the gas, particles and fuel waste that came from cars was dirty.  The experiment helped us to understand that cars have an impact on clean air.

So the challenge is to now think of how each of us along with our families, can reduce pollution  that causes harm to our environment.

Can we walk more often?  Maybe car pool?  Use bikes and scooters to get around our neighbourhood? Have you any other ideas?

Here is the little team that went off to Room 11 on Thursday, to share what they can do in daily warm up maths.  Thanks Room 11 for allowing to teach you about what we do.  We hope you will enjoy using this approach in your class, build on your number knowledge and get more excited about maths.

Traditional Maori Instruments - Taonga pūoro

Artist Horomona Horo shared his knowledge, musical skills, legends and stories of his ancestry with us.  We were very privileged to see some of his collection of traditional Maori instruments and enjoyed the music he made with them.  Did you know August is Maori Music Month?

Here are just a few instruments we enjoyed at the presentation.

This instrument makes the sound of the male NZ Case Moth.  What amazing creatures we learnt they are. Mrs Chester can't wait to find out more about their life cycle.

A big  THANK YOU to...
Horomona Horo for sharing his kete of knowledge with us.

Strike Percussion

What a show!  Lots of sounds enjoyed by our school, as Strike performed for us.

Paula was asked to help out and was wonderful at keeping the beat on the Cook Island drums.

Movemprove - Gymnastics

This term we are having some coaching as part of our PE programme.  Here are all the children practising their motorbike landings before getting onto the apparatus.  So much fun and learning.
